U-16 makes it to provincial bronze game
Sundre U16 started off really well at the provincial championships Friday night against Leduc with a 3-1 win. Saturday at 5 pm they played against Vermillion and tied that game with 1-1 sending Vermillion home and made Sundre end up number 1 in their group. Sunday morning 8 am they had to face Athabasca, a very strong team with bigger players and Sundre lost that game with 5-1, which made them play the bronze game against Peace River. That match was lost by Sundre with 5-2 after a hard fought battle in 29C. Sundre U16 ended up 4th in the province this year, and I think as their coach that we should be really proud of these young sportsmen. We are a small town and the towns we played have way more players to choose from and better facilities. I think that this U16 team deserves a big applause from anyone who loves sports in general. Mike Newton, Tyler Kazcinski, Jelmer vanden Hadelkamp, Flurin Obrist, Tristan Jochems, Garret Janz, Cory Nault, Jitse vanden Hadelkamp, James Dyer, Tate Irving, Carson Barthelow, Chase Griffin, and Lucas Dyer, congratulations on putting Sundre on the map of competitive soccer in Alberta. The team’s coach is Patrick vanden Hadelkamp and and the assistant coach is Lee Dyer.
Meanwhile, the U14 team played very well in all three games, showing great heart and a
never-give-up attitude.
“We played teams from Sherwood Park, Ponoka and Athabasca. It was a great experience for the team and I am very proud of all of them,” said coach Andrew Pearce.
