RCMP seek info following copper wire thefts
Police are looking for public tips regarding recent copper wire thefts from area oil facility sites.
Most recently someone entered a site operated by NAL Resources northwest of the Little Red Deer Store and made off with all the ground wire from the trays in the facility.
Approximately $10,000 worth was taken but the replacement value has been estimated between $20,000 and $30,000. The thief will probably get less than a couple of thousand dollars for scrap.
Police believe the theft happened on or about June 13. It was detected on June 20 and reported to police on June 22.
“This has become a recurring problem and without the vigilance of the public to alert the police to suspicious activity this problem will continue,” said Const. Val Dennis.
Any activity at an oil site that does not usually have activity at night should be reported, he said.
Police have been informed that there is not usually any activity at these sites at night.
The operators of the sites have informed police that the emergency contact number for a company that is posted on the gate is a good number to call. The company knows if there is supposed to be workers on the site any time. Keep this number handy so if there is suspicious activity it can be called immediately.
Any suspicious activity should also be reported to police as soon as possible.
You can contact Const. Dennis at the Sundre detachment at 403-638-3675.
