Charges follow head-on collision

Three months after a two-vehicle head-on collision on Highway 27 east of Sundre sent three people to hospital with serious injuries, the driver of one of the vehicles has been charged.

The 19-year-old accused has been charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm and driving with a blood alcohol level greater than 80 mg per cent causing bodily harm.

Early on the morning of Feb. 24, a westbound pickup truck and an eastbound minivan collided 12 kilometres east of Sundre.

The driver of the pickup was flown by STARS to Calgary, as was the 25-year-old male driver of the minivan.

A 35-year-old female passenger in the van was taken to hospital in Olds, treated and released. Two female passengers in the pickup were not seriously injured in the crash.

Debris from the crash was scattered over a large area, with both vehicles destroyed on impact.

Sundre firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver of the minivan from the vehicle.

Brandon Moore, 19, of Sundre, will make his first appearance in Didsbury provincial court on June 4.
